Just about a month ago one of the newest Whole Foods opened in Cherry Hill, NJ. My new friend Tricia Burrough, of Lilac Blossom Photography, Collingswood, NJ documented a number of the opening moments. To see more images of the Cherry Hill Whole Foods grand opening visit: http://www.lilacblossomphoto.com/njpen-com-first-look-whole-foods-market-cherry-hill-photo-gallery/“ The store features significant advancements in retail merchandising. The cheese shop features an upright wall shelf refrigerated case much like European formats. The store also features a dry and refrigerated pasta bar with locally sourced artisan pastas from http://severinopasta.com/ Fresh produce featured a metal upright frame surrounding tiered unique baskets filled with unique tropical fruits from around the world. Of most note are enormous whole jackfruits, which were certainly a conversation piece. The fresh produce opening set featured the words, "Cherry Hill" written in yellow and red bell peppers perfectly placed across the display. Produce items were excellently hand-stacked in baskets.
Cherry Hill features many glass door merchandising cases with 2-3 bays in produce housing the bagged salad category. The dairy department is almost entirely encased in glass with very intense product specific lighting as seen below.
Whole Foods is also known for their signature signage, much of which is designed by hand by staff artists. I imagine Whole Foods employees some of the areas top calligraphers and illustrators when I observe the level of attention to detail and creativity featured in in-store signage. Just to save Tricia any embarrassment, the photo below was taken on my cellphone. The new store also features a "pop-up" in store market stall called "The Hatchery." This location is available to local artisan food producers to reserve for a limited time block to present their new food products to the public for-sale and to likely give Whole Foods and idea of the level of interest by customer engagement the products might have. All in all this store is jammed packed with new ideas, superior retail environment design, and signature products.
